Two Sent To Jail For Stealing Goat In Abuja

Two persons were last Wednesday sentenced to three weeks imprisonment each by a Grade 1 Area Court sitting in Gwagwalada for stealing a goat.
Abdul Ibrahim and Pankyes Ishaya, both of Phase II Gwagwalada were convicted for joint acts and theft, which are offences contrary to Sections 79 and 286 of the Penal Code.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Haruna Suleiman, said on November 9 at about 2pm, one Mohammed Suleiman reported at the Gwagwalada Police Station that the two accused persons on the same day stole a goat belonging to the complainant’s mother.
When the charges were read to them in court, they pleaded guilty and Judge Hassan Ishaq Mohammed sentenced them to jail without fine option.
In another case, a 19- year-old Ahmadu Yahaya was jailed for two months for joint acts and theft, which are offences contrary Sections 79 and 286 of the Penal Code.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Haruna Suleiman, told the court that on November 8 at about 2:19 pm, one Chidi Onah reported that the accused and one other person now at large, jointly went to his shop and stole a gas cylinder valued at N8,000.
The accused pleaded guilty when the charges were read to him and Judge Hassan IshaqMohammed sentenced him to two months imprisonment or to pay N4,000 as fine. The court also ordered that the recovered gas cylinder be handed over to the rightful owner.
