Orovwuje, Okpara I, has joined his ancestors, after a peaceful 54-year
reign on the throne.
His death was formally announced at a public ceremony on Friday at the ancestral headquarters in Okpara Inland, Ethiope East.

Until recently, the late Ovie of Agbon Kingdom was the chairman of Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers.
The announcement by renowned lawyer, Chief Efe Akpofure (SAN), the Otota (spokesman) of Agbon Kingdom, also marked the commencement of official mourning of the departed monarch throughout the six sub-clans of the kingdom.
With the announcement, all other traditional ceremonies such as burials, feast and investiture with traditional titles remain prohibited until the end of the seven-day rite of passage from 14th November to 20th November 2012.
“I, Chief Efe Akpofure (SAN) the Otota of Agbon Kimngdom, members of the entire royal family, the chiefs and the entire people of Agbon Kingdom deeply regret to announce, but with gratitude to God, that His Royal Majesty, Ogurime Rime, Chamberlain Oyibocha Orovwuje JP Okpara I, the Ovie of Agbon Kingdom has joined his ancestors” read a part of the statement.
“The late ruler was a member of the Western House of Chiefs; a board member of the Nigerian Coal Corporation, Enugu; pioneer member of the Mid-Western House of Chiefs; chairman, Bendel State Hospital Management Board; director, Bendel Glass Factory, Ughelli; member, Traditional Rulers of Oil Mineral Producing Communities of Nigeria (TROMPCON), and the immediate chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, among others.”
Royal dignitaries present at the solemn ceremony include the deceased’s eldest son and UK-based architect, Prince Charles Orovwuje; President-General of Agbon Kingdom, Chief Peter Clavier Obakponovwe; the kingdom’s publicity committee chairman, Olorogun Tevo Otite, Ogbvwudu of Agbon Kingdom; Chief (Mrs.) Gladys Opkaravero, the Ayerokparode; as well as Agbon Woman Leader, Chief (Mrs.) Elizabeth Ede Rhima.
