Nigeria's President Honours Paralympic Gold medalists with National Awards

Six gold medallists at the London Paralympic Games were among 155 people conferred with national honours in Abuja on Monday by President Goodluck Jonathan.
Each of them received the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) award.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that those honoured are Loveline Obiji, Ivory Nwokorie, Esther Oyema, Joy, Grace Anozie and Yakubu Adesokan
“It is an honour given to me which means I have to work very hard to maintain my position and to make my state proud from this moment on,” Obiji said.
On her part, Anozie said she was happy that she had been honoured with such a prestigious award.
She said she was grateful to God and the President for deeming them fit for the award, adding that they had won laurels in the past and nobody recognised them.
“I thank President Goodluck Jonathan for the award as this makes us to know that there is ability in every disability.
“The award is telling me to go and work harder to achieve more because I know we are heading somewhere,” she said.
In her comments, Onaolapo said this was her first outing and was happy that she won a gold medal.
She promised to work very hard to bring more honours to the country.
Jonathan had on Saturday in Abuja rewarded the entire members of the Nigerian team to the 2012 London Paralympic Games and the national under-20 women’s football team.
At a reception held for both teams, the President announced a cash reward of N5m for each gold medallist, N3m for each of the five silver medallists and N2m each for Nneji Victoria and Iyiazi Eucharia, who won bronze medals.
Other members of the Paralympic team who did not win any medal at the Games were also rewarded with N500,000 each.
President Jonathan further announced N1m reward for members of the Falconets who finished fourth at the U-20 FIFA World Cup in Japan, while their officials are to receive N1.2 m each.
